Art, stories, and a bit of magic
New Illustrated Book Published!
I'm thrilled to announce that my first illustrated book project, The Music Thief, has just been published! The book was created in collaboration with the amazing Australian-Canadian musician Sophie Armstrong. This project has been in the pipeline for quite a while, so we are both really pleased to see it finally released into the wild. The Music Thief is a children’s fable about overcoming adversity through curiosity, kindness, and a little magic.

New Print Shop with Free Shipping
After long hours at my desk, many cups of tea and frequent swearing, I’ve rebuilt my website. It comes complete with a shiny new shop, and I’m currently selling giclée art prints and a small collection of unique Pearl Bates Christmas cards. All items come with free worldwide shipping.
Upcoming December Exhibition
I’m currently preparing for a little Christmas exhibition at Chimera House in Brighton. I was all set to exhibit here as part of the Brighton Open Houses Art Trail in May 2020 – but we all know what happened next! So I’m really looking forward to finally having my work at this charming, quirky venue. I’ll be offering original paintings at special prices and also some extra goodies that won’t be available anywhere else. I’ll be there on the 7th and 8th of December. Do pop down to say hello, it would be lovely to see you.

A Moment of Inspiration
While walking home the other day, a gentle gust of wind sent a flurry of Autumnal leaves swirling from the trees all around me. A couple of them landed by my feet, and when I looked down, I was stunned by their beauty. I saw a spine-like pattern in perfect globs of pristine yellow, edged in black like kohl, laid out against a backdrop of fiery crimson. It reminded me that beauty and wonder is always all around us – it’s just that sometimes, we might have to remember to look for it.
Wishing you all the best,
